Challenge: Peak was challenged with construction of a 86,809 sf expansion and full-building upgrades to Volkswagen’s existing 250,366 sf parts distribution facility while the tenant remained operational.  Not only was the project started during the fall months, but the COVID-19 pandemic also began while the project was underway.

Solution: Peak proactively and meticulously planned and scheduled the construction activities to facilitate Volkswagen’s operations continued without disruption.  This scheduling included coordinating tenant parking, employee access and delivery access during construction activities that included the precast expansion, painting of the entire building, upgraded electrical service, relocation of 60lf of precast screenwall without damage, and converting a dock position into a drive-in door utilizing a precast Redi-Ramp, as well as implementing temporary security measures while the replacement of existing fencing and gates were taking place.  Peak was able to mitigate delays caused by inclement weather and the pandemic through constant communication, partnerships and creative problem solving with the city and subcontractor team to ultimately deliver a successful project.
