Des Plaines, IL (July 26, 2013) — SUNSTAR Americas, Inc. has broken ground on their new 302,000 square foot North American Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility which will bring 400 jobs to Schaumburg, Illinois. Heitman Architects and Peak Construction Corporation were selected as the integrated Design-Build Team to plan, design and construct the facility which is scheduled to open December 2014. The development includes 80 acres fronting I-90 west of the Motorola Campus which are being rezoned and annexed into Schaumburg. The building will feature a 350’ long “Gallery” overlook, spanning north to south between the offices and the factory floor. The gallery “Lantern” at the south end will be a visible beacon for westbound motorists on I-90.
The three-story corporate facility will sit on high ground with unobstructed views across open prairie and lakes to the north and east. Winding drives and walking paths overlook pristine landscape and a two acre nature wetland preserve. 42 acres surrounding the Headquarters development is planned with minimum disturbance to the existing terrain and natural vegetation. Kimley-Horn Associates: Civil Engineers, and Planning Resources: Landscape Architects are providing the innovative site design services. The project will be LEED Certified.
Other building features include an atrium dining hall, fitness room, and 200 seat auditorium. The operations side will house an R&D Center, Specialized Manufacturing, Clean Rooms and an automated packaging/distribution operation.
“The Heitman/Peak team understood our vision and listened to our needs for the new facility,” said Dan Descary, Managing Director, Americas. “Their distinct expertise and leadership has guided us through design and development issues, resulting in a flagship corporate headquater campus exceeding our expectations.”
